Catenary Lighting,
Kensington VIC
Bespoke Wire & Rope partnered with Sphera Lighting to deliver a tensioned catenary lighting system for a new apartment block in Kensington. Installed in the Level 7 central courtyard, the system required careful consideration of wind loads and structural performance. Working with Partridge Engineers, Bespoke developed a fully certified system with custom stainless steel brackets and tensioned cables, allowing the Sphera team to integrate and commission the lighting.
Location: Macaulay Rd, Kensington, VIC
Completion Date: May 2022
Client: Sphera Lighting
Our Scope
Bespoke designed, engineered, manufactured, and installed the complete catenary system. Custom stainless steel brackets were fabricated and chemically anchored into the existing concrete structure, protruding through the cladding to allow secure cable attachment.
Our installers coordinated with Sphera Lighting and the builder to safely install each bracket and tension the cables to the engineer’s specifications. Once complete, the Sphera team worked with site electricians to finalise and commission the lighting.
The system was installed to:
Provide a safe and durable catenary lighting structure for a high-level courtyard
Withstand wind loads in accordance with engineering requirements
Integrate seamlessly with existing concrete and cladding
Deliver a certified tensile system ready for electrical commissioning
This project demonstrates Bespoke’s ability to deliver engineered tensile systems that combine structural integrity, safety and architectural integration.
