Flexi-mesh Balustrades,
Kew VIC

Bespoke Wire & Rope collaborated with Ireland Brown Construction and MGS Architects to design, engineer, supply, and install Flexi-mesh balustrades for Xavier College’s Kostka Building in Kew. The full-height screens complemented the timber and stone finishes of the building and were delivered under a compressed timeline.

Location: Barkers Rd, Kew VIC

Completion Date: January 2024

Client: Xavier College

Builder: Ireland Brown Construction

Architect: MGS Architects

Our Scope

Bespoke designed and installed floor-to-ceiling stainless steel Flexi-mesh balustrades across the Kostka Building. The scope included collaborating with Forged Steelworks to deliver supporting steelwork, including folded kicker plates. These plates allowed hamma standoff anchors to be fixed directly to the folded steel rather than into the face of the CLT slab.

Due to project timelines, the team shaped, trimmed, and swaged unique geometric panels directly on site instead of relying on factory-manufactured panels. This required specialist tools, equipment, and hands-on expertise, ensuring the final result met both structural and architectural standards.

The balustrades were installed to:

  • Provide compliant fall protection across multiple building levels

  • Deliver full-height Flexi-mesh screens with architectural transparency

  • Integrate seamlessly with adjoining timber and stone finishes

  • Adapt to a compressed timeline through on-site fabrication and expertise

This project highlights Bespoke’s ability to respond flexibly under pressure, delivering certified, high-quality outcomes through close collaboration and innovative problem-solving.
