Our Scope

ADCO engaged Bespoke Wire & Rope to design, supply, and install a series of tensioned vertical cable balustrades for the new Science building at Caulfield Grammar School. Nearly 1,200 individual cables were installed across 10 balustrade systems spanning four levels, making this one of the most complex balustrade projects in our portfolio.

The design and engineering phase was extensive, with Bespoke leading the Performance Based Design Brief and certification for the balustrade system. This process ensured compliance with the Australian Standards, addressing not only the cables themselves but also the supporting structures to which they were fixed.

Technical details included:

• 4.0mm 1x19 G316 ‘hamma X’ wire rope

• 4mm M8 swage fittings

• Cross clamps with 4.0mm stainless steel round bar

The installation required a staged approach. The cables were anchored at the ceiling, concealed within the slab above, which meant they had to be hung in advance and carefully integrated around the joinery team’s work before being tensioned at floor level.

Following completion, Bespoke conducted monthly inspections and cable tension readings for the first 12 months, ensuring the system maintained performance as the building settled.
