Rooftop Basketball Court Enclosure, Cremorne VIC

Bespoke Wire & Rope collaborated with Cobild, Fieldwork, and Fortis to deliver a rooftop basketball court enclosure at 65 Dover Street, Cremorne. The scope included custom steel columns and a sliding gate fabricated by SP Mclean Engineering, craned into place with both 80t and crawler cranes. Bespoke designed, engineered, and installed 10mm hamma X perimeter cables with 1.5mm Flexi-mesh panels spanning the walls, ceiling, and gate infill, incorporating custom cleats and gussets to maintain offset planes. The result is a secure, functional, and visually refined enclosure, highlighting Bespoke’s expertise in complex rooftop installations.

Our Scope

Bespoke designed, engineered, supplied, and installed the full rooftop basketball court enclosure. Our scope included the custom steel columns and sliding gate, manufactured by our trusted fabricator SP Mclean Engineering. Dover Street was temporarily closed to allow an 80-tonne mobile crane to lift the columns and gate frame to the rooftop, where a crawler crane stood each column on its footing.

Once the structure was in place, we installed 10mm hamma X perimeter cables on site to form the framework, before fixing 1.5mm Flexi-mesh panels across the four walls, ceiling, and gate infill. The design required careful detailing to offset the mesh walls from the columns, achieved with custom cleats, gussets, and fixing orientations. The sliding gate was tailored to align seamlessly with the adjoining mesh, requiring intricate coordination by our project engineer.

The enclosure was installed to:

  • Provide a secure rooftop sports facility for residents and visitors

  • Deliver a compliant, long-lasting enclosure designed to withstand rooftop conditions

  • Integrate the sliding gate and structural detailing into the overall architectural design

  • Showcase collaboration between builder, architect, fabricators, and Bespoke’s install team

This project highlights Bespoke’s ability to deliver highly engineered enclosures in complex rooftop environments, combining technical precision with architectural detail.
